Request for Proposals: ICL Case Study and Guidance for Australia
PDF, Size: 1.29MB

ICLs are living landscapes to which First Nations Peoples attribute environmental, social, cultural, spiritual, and economic value because of their enduring relationship with the land, water, fauna, flora, and spirits, and their present and future importance to their cultural identity. They are landscapes over which First Nations Peoples exercise responsibility for custodianship and to which they are connected to through long-term interactions based on land-care knowledge and adaptive livelihood practices.

In the revised Standard, forest managers will be required to identify ICLs within their management units and to develop measures to protect these through a Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) process.

To support forest managers’ implementation of the new ICL requirements, this project will deliver clear, practical guidance informed by a case study.

Key deliverables

  • Analysis of the proposed ICL requirements in the revised Standard.
  • A literature review to better understand the concept of and relevant approaches to the management of ICLs.
  • Close engagement with at least one First Nations community as part of the development of the case study to demonstrate practical application.
  • The development of a guidance document supported by the case.
  • Workshops delivered to FSC-certified forest managers and FSC ANZ’s First Nations Committee to strengthen the guidance and build forest managers’ capacity.

If you or your organisation have the relevant qualifications and experience, FSC ANZ invites you to submit a proposal in accordance with the requirements set out in the Request for Proposal and using the Price Sheet Template to indicate the price of each deliverable.

Applications must be received by close of business on 21 October. Please submit your proposal to info@au.fsc.org, and please indicate your availability for an interview, as outlined in the Request for Proposals, in your submission.
