It is sometimes bittersweet saying goodbye to a colleague. On one hand you know their skills, personality and character will be sorely missed yet on the other you can be sure they will flourish in their next endeavour. Brett Gilmore is one such colleague.

After over 20 years of experience with the FSC Brett has accumulated a vast amount of experience in our organisation, including preparing companies for certification, developing two FSC national standards, attending several FSC events and, most recently, writing FSC Environmental and Social Risk Analyses for 35 companies in NZ and Australia (no small feat!).

He has made amazing strides in so many collaborative projects, it would not be hyperbole to say he has played a role in shaping NZ forestry for the better. His long history with the FSC provides him with unique insight into the challenges and benefits the system can provide.

It is no surprise that it takes something special to the balance the needs of the economic, environmental, and social interests of the forestry sector. Brett, like the rest of our Standard Development Group, has that special something.

He fits into and works seamlessly with what can only be described as a broad mix of constituents. Unfortunately, we cannot hold onto Brett forever and after 15 years of dedicated service to the New Zealand Standard Development Group he has found his next path and he is ready to travel it.

Brett’s next adventure will see him as an FSC Lead Auditor with SGS. We know he will bring amazing things to this role.

On behalf of FSC New Zealand and the wider FSC Team, we thank you, Brett for all the amazing work you have put into this organisation.

We wish you all the best with life’s next adventure.
