You may know Officeworks for being your go to for fine point pens or handy printing services, but did you know about their commitment to sustainability?
As a leading retailer, with over 8,000 paper and wood products in stores, Officeworks’ commitment to FSC sends a message down the supply chain: their choices are influential to increasing responsible forest management practices.
In the last 12 months, Officeworks have achieved FSC certification on 80% of their private label paper products. Their certified product range has grown now to include desks, pencils, notebooks and paper.
As part of their commitment to responsible sourcing of forestry products, Officeworks has set a 2020 goal for all paper products to be either FSC certified or 100% recycled.
Officeworks' environmental actions go beyond compliance and responsible sourcing. Building on their sustainability commitments, supplying FSC certified material, in 2017 the leading retailer launched Restoring Australia.
Developed in collaboration with Greening Australia, the initiative is an first in Australia. Together they plant two trees for every one used, based on the weight of paper-based products customers buy at Officeworks.
Through Restoring Australia, Officeworks aims to plant over 300,000 seeds and seedlings by the end of 2018.
They will target landscapes where more than 85% of the natural habitat has been lost, such as the Tasmanian Midlands, New South Wales Highlands, Kangaroo Island in South Australia, and the Victorian Volcanic Plains. The iniative is helping increase water quality and revegetate bushland so that local endangered wildlife can flourish.
